Over two full hours of driving, you'll navigate ancient lava fields, tackle off-road terrain in the active volcanic area surrounding Hengill Mountain, and take in sweeping views of lake Hafravatn and the Blue Mountains — including Vífilsfell.
On clear days, watch steam rise dramatically from a nearby geothermal power plant, a striking reminder of the volcanic forces that shaped this landscape. Your English-speaking guide leads the route and ensures every rider is comfortable and safe throughout the experience.
All protective gear — overalls, helmet, balaclava, and gloves — is provided at the base camp, located just 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavík. Optional hotel pickup and drop-off is available, making it easy to join from anywhere in the city.
Buggies seat up to two people. You can book as a single rider (one person per buggy) or as a shared rider (two people per buggy). Prices are per person, not per vehicle. Drivers must be 18 years or older and hold a valid driving licence; passengers do not need a licence and must be a minimum age of 6 years.

Who can drive the buggy, and can children participate?↓
All drivers must be 18 years or older and hold a valid driving licence. Passengers do not need a licence. Non-driving passengers must be a minimum age of 6 years. Children can ride as passengers sharing a buggy with an adult driver.
What is the difference between single rider and shared rider options?↓
Single rider means one person per buggy. Shared rider means two people share one buggy, and a minimum of 2 participants is required to book this option. If your group has an odd number of participants, one person must book the single rider option. Prices are per person in both cases.
Is hotel pickup available, and where does the tour depart from?↓
Hotel pickup is optional and available from selected locations in Reykjavík, including downtown bus stops, hotels outside the city centre, and cruise ship docks. If you prefer to make your own way, the base camp is at Lambhagavegur 19, just 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavík, with free parking on site.
