Verified operatorReykjavík: Snorkeling in Silfra Fissure – Wetsuit & Drysuit Options
2 hours 30 minutes
Snorkel the crystal-clear waters of Silfra fissure at Þingvellir National Park — literally between the European and North American tectonic plates. No diving experience needed. All gear, Reykjavík pickup, an English-speaking guide, and free underwater photos are included in this 4.5-hour adventure.
Dive into one of the world's most extraordinary underwater environments on this wetsuit snorkeling tour at Silfra fissure, located within the Þingvellir National Park UNESCO World Heritage Site, approximately 50 km from Reykjavík. Silfra is a freshwater canyon formed where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates drift apart — meaning you will literally snorkel between two continents.
The visibility in Silfra is exceptional, with sightlines of at least 100 metres in water so pure it feels like floating through air. Adventure Vikings is the only snorkeling operator in Iceland offering wetsuit snorkeling, giving participants the freedom to dive below the surface and explore the underwater canyon up close — something a drysuit does not allow.
No diving licence or prior snorkeling experience is required. All necessary gear is provided, and your English-speaking guide will brief you fully before entering the water. The snorkeling portion lasts approximately 30–40 minutes, with the full tour running around 4 hours 30 minutes including hotel pickup, transfer, briefing, and suiting up.
The tour includes morning hotel pickup from downtown Reykjavík, drop-off after the tour, free underwater photos taken during your snorkel, and hot chocolate to warm up afterwards. A GoPro camera rental is also available on request.
Your tour begins with a hotel pickup from downtown Reykjavík, approximately 75 minutes before the snorkeling session starts. You will be transferred to the Silfra car park at Þingvellir National Park, where your Adventure Vikings guide will meet you.
After check-in, your guide will provide a full safety briefing and help you suit up in your wetsuit. You will then enter Silfra fissure and spend approximately 30–40 minutes snorkeling through the crystal-clear canyon, drifting between the tectonic plates of Europe and North America.
The water in Silfra is cold; the wetsuit covers your entire body but does not fully eliminate the chill. Participants should be prepared for cold-water conditions and dress warmly for before and after the snorkel.
Adventure Vikings is the only snorkeling company in Iceland offering wetsuit snorkeling at Silfra — a format that lets you dive beneath the surface and fully explore the underwater fissure, rather than staying on top of the water as a drysuit requires.
Everything you need is taken care of: Reykjavík hotel pickup and drop-off, all snorkeling gear, an English-speaking guide, free underwater photos, and hot chocolate after your session. The tour is designed for participants with no prior snorkeling or diving experience, making this world-class site genuinely accessible. With a total duration of 4 hours 30 minutes, it fits comfortably into a single day in Iceland.
