About this experience

Dive into one of the world's most extraordinary underwater environments at the Silfra Fissure, a geological wonder located within Þingvellir National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart, creating a crack you can actually snorkel through.

The glacial water that fills Silfra originates from Langjökull glacier and is naturally filtered through porous lava fields for decades before reaching the fissure. The result is some of the purest water on Earth, with visibility stretching up to 150 metres — conditions that make every colour and contour of the underwater landscape appear impossibly vivid.

Your PADI-certified English-speaking guide leads a small group with a maximum ratio of one guide per six guests, ensuring personalised attention throughout the experience. All snorkeling equipment is provided, including a thermal undersuit and drysuit to keep you warm in the glacial water.

Reykjavík hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with park admission, free underwater photos taken by your guide, and hot chocolate and cookies to warm up after your snorkel. The full experience runs approximately 5 hours 30 minutes.

Experience details

Your tour begins with a comfortable minibus pickup from a designated location in Reykjavík. The drive to Þingvellir National Park takes approximately 45 minutes, during which your guide will introduce you to the geology and history of the area.

On arrival, you will be fitted with a thermal undersuit, drysuit, boots, fins, gloves, and snorkel mask. Your guide will walk you through safety procedures and snorkeling technique before entering the water.

In the fissure, you will float between two continents in water of extraordinary clarity, with visibility of up to 150 metres. The small group size — a maximum of six guests per guide — means you receive attentive guidance throughout.

After the snorkel, warm up with hot chocolate and cookies before the minibus returns you to Reykjavík. Your guide photographs the experience underwater, and the free images are made available to you after the tour.
