About this experience

This full-day small-group tour combines two of Iceland's most extraordinary experiences: snorkeling in the Silfra Fissure and a complete circuit of the Golden Circle. Hotel pickup in Reykjavík is included, and your certified PADI Divemaster guide accompanies you throughout the day.

The adventure begins at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. After a safety briefing, you are fitted with a full drysuit, thermal undersuit, neoprene hood and gloves, mask, snorkel, and fins. In the water, you drift through Silfra Hall — the fissure's widest chamber — and on to Silfra Cathedral, its deepest point, before reaching the shallow turquoise pool known as the Real Blue Lagoon.

The Golden Circle continues with a visit to the Geysir geothermal area, where the geyser Strokkur erupts up to 40 metres every five minutes, and hundreds of colourful hot springs dot the landscape. The tour then heads to Gullfoss, the thundering two-tiered waterfall fed by meltwater from Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier.

Groups are kept small — a maximum of six participants per guide in the water — and free GoPro underwater photos are included so you can relive every moment of the dive.

Experience details

Your guide collects you by minibus from a designated Reykjavík pickup point. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, where you walk through volcanic, moss-covered terrain to the water's edge. Your PADI Divemaster delivers a thorough safety briefing before you are fitted with all snorkeling equipment.

In Silfra Fissure you drift through gin-clear glacial water, passing the canyon walls of Silfra Hall and descending to Silfra Cathedral before reaching the vivid shallow pool at the end. The drysuit keeps you buoyant and insulated throughout.

After drying off and warming up with hot drinks and chocolate bars, the tour continues to the Geysir geothermal area and the iconic Gullfoss waterfall. The tour runs for approximately 10 hours in total, with your guide providing commentary on Iceland's geology, history, and culture throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need snorkeling or diving experience to join this tour?
No prior snorkeling or diving experience is required. Your certified PADI Divemaster guide provides a full safety briefing and fits you with all equipment before you enter the water. You do need to be comfortable swimming and physically fit.
What makes Silfra Fissure special for snorkeling?
Silfra is the only place in the world where you can snorkel directly between two tectonic plates — the North American and Eurasian plates. The glacially filtered water offers exceptional visibility, and the fissure features distinct sections including Silfra Hall and the deep Silfra Cathedral.
Will I be cold snorkeling in Silfra?
The water in Silfra is glacially cold year-round. You are provided with a full drysuit, thermal undersuit, and neoprene hood and gloves, which keep you well insulated and buoyant throughout the snorkel.
How many people are in the water at the same time?
A maximum of six participants snorkel with each guide in the water, keeping the experience personal and manageable regardless of the overall group size on the minibus.
Are there any physical requirements for this tour?
Participants must be between 150 cm and 200 cm tall and weigh between 45 and 120 kg. The minimum age is 12 years and the maximum is 69 years. Participants aged 60–69 require a medical waiver. Pregnancy is a contraindication. See the medical form at troll.is/medical for full details.
What is included in the Golden Circle portion of the tour?
After snorkeling, the tour visits the Geysir geothermal area — where Strokkur erupts up to 40 metres roughly every five minutes — and Gullfoss, the dramatic two-tiered waterfall fed by meltwater from Langjökull glacier. Þingvellir National Park is visited for the snorkeling segment.
