Skaftafell: Falljökull Glacier Walk – Mountain Guides

Your adventure starts at Skaftafell Base Camp, where you meet your certified glacier guide from Icelandic Mountain Guides. Before heading onto the ice, your guide fits you with all necessary glacier equipment and briefs you on safety. A short ride on the Glacier Bus brings you to the glacier edge, where the real exploration begins.

On the glacier, you'll weave through a landscape of ice sculptures, navigate along ridges, and peer into deep blue crevasses. Throughout the walk, your guide shares insights into the geology and history of Icelandic glaciers, bringing the frozen landscape to life.

After approximately two hours on the ice, you return by Glacier Bus to Skaftafell. The full experience lasts 3 hours and 30 minutes, offering a memorable and well-structured introduction to glacier hiking in Iceland.

The tour is rated easy and is suitable for most fitness levels, including first-time glacier hikers. Here is what to expect on the day:

• Meeting point: Arrive at the Icelandic Mountain Guides Sales Lodge at Skaftafell Base Camp, located next to the National Park Visitor Centre, at least 20 minutes before your scheduled departure.
• Equipment fitting: Your guide provides crampons, helmets, and all required safety gear before you set off.
• Glacier Bus transfer: A short bus ride takes you from Skaftafell to the glacier access point.
• Glacier walk: Spend approximately two hours on Falljökull, exploring ice formations and learning about the glacier's history and geology.
• Return: The Glacier Bus returns you to Skaftafell Base Camp to conclude the tour.

Participants must be at least 10 years old. Wear warm, layered clothing and waterproof rain gear. Sturdy hiking boots are required and can be rented if needed.
