Silfra fissure, set within the UNESCO-listed Þingvellir National Park, is one of the world's most extraordinary snorkeling destinations — ranked by National Geographic among the top dive sites on the planet. This 3-hour small-group experience, operated by Troll Expeditions, lets you glide through a crack in the Earth's crust where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
The water here is pure, filtered glacial meltwater with visibility stretching up to 100 metres, making it unlike any snorkeling environment on Earth. Your certified PADI divemaster guide will lead you safely through the fissure, pointing out the dramatic underwater geology and vivid colours unique to Silfra.
All snorkeling equipment and a dry-suit with under-suit are provided, keeping you warm and dry throughout the experience. After your snorkel, warm up with hot chocolate or tea and Icelandic chocolate bars. Your complimentary GoPro underwater photos are ready to share straight after the tour.

Do I need snorkeling experience to join this Silfra tour?↓
No prior snorkeling experience is required, but you must be comfortable in water and able to swim. Your certified PADI divemaster guide will brief the group on technique and safety before entering the water. The dry-suit provides buoyancy, making it straightforward for first-timers.
How cold is the water in Silfra fissure?↓
The glacial meltwater in Silfra stays at around 2–4°C year-round. The dry-suit and thermal under-suit provided by Troll Expeditions keep your body warm and dry throughout the snorkel, so water temperature is not a barrier to enjoying the experience.
Is there hotel pickup included with this tour?↓
No hotel pickup is provided. This tour is self-meet at the Troll Expeditions Silfra meeting point inside Þingvellir National Park. It is well suited to self-drive travellers on the Golden Circle route who have their own transport.
What are the physical requirements for snorkeling in Silfra?↓
